Education is a partnership between teachers, students, and parents, the design of which is to nurture both the intellect and character. Academic support goes beyond simply improving grades—it fosters the development of virtues such as diligence, integrity, carefulness, and ultimately a love of truth.
The Center for Paideia assists students in cultivating a robust understanding of subjects while also encouraging them to discover approaches to their studies that strengthen them not only in learning, but also in “how” to learn. The objective of these services is to offer enhanced support for students when teachers identify areas of difficulty or where targeted intervention may be necessary. Academic support is personalized, focusing on the individual needs of each student, and includes strategies such as in-class support, small group and one-on-one instruction, and executive functioning training to help students develop essential life skills such as time management, study habits, and perseverance.
Our Grammar School support provides small group and individual support even if no specific diagnosis or history of need for a student has been established. The Center for Paideia works alongside classroom teachers in identifying and implementing various teaching strategies to support exceptional learners. We provide temporary assistance both individually or in a small group setting. Finally, when additional support is needed, we work with parents to navigate broader services through the local school system or other external providers. The objective of these services is to offer enhanced support for student.
The Center for Paideia builds on the services provided in previous years. Students in grade 5 and above are required to have a diagnosis from a medical professional to receive services. For all students with specific learning needs or a diagnosis our staff will write plans for services, work with parents to understand the service plans, implement service plans during the school day whenever possible or in small groups or one-on-one sessions. In addition, we monitor student progress quarterly and adjust plans as needed. Finally, when additional support is needed, we work with parents to navigate broader services through the local school system or other external providers. The objective of these services is to offer enhanced support for student.
The Center for Paideia works with families to provide tutoring when students need more focused academic support in a specific area. Peer tutoring is offered by older students proficient in Latin, Greek, math, and other subjects. While not professional instruction, this low-cost option is often effective for addressing gaps in understanding. For students needing sustained support, the Center for Paideia contracts with teachers and professional tutors to provide one-on-one instruction.
