Our Hands & Hearts community service day was held on Wednesday, April 13.  This project is designed to strengthen the connection between students and teachers, to develop trust, and to promote healthy, caring relationships.  Our goal is to put students into a position in which they gain greater awareness of the lives and conditions of people around them. Rolling up our sleeves and working side-by-side with parents and teachers can make a powerful impression upon children who naturally attend to their own needs and desires.  About 425 students, teachers, and parent volunteers joined together this year to serve at the Salvation Army of Central Virginia, Rush Homes, The Arc of Central Virginia, Patrick Henry Family Services, Lynchburg Grows, Compassion Church, and Camp Kum-Ba-Yah.  We completed many landscaping projects, dug drainage ditches, painted indoors and out, worked in food pantries, and picked up sticks and trash.  It was a day full of energy and one which our community highly anticipates each year.
