"I cannot live without books." - Thomas Jefferson

Central Virginia still feels the spirit of Thomas Jefferson, whose summer home in Poplar Forest is only a few miles away. With Monticello and the University of Virgina only about an hour north, the campus reflects the influence our third President continues to have throughout our region. It is fitting that our library bears the distinct architectural image of his Pavillion XI on the lawn at the University of Virginia.

The library currently contains only about 10,000 volumes in its collection, but is gradually expanding. It is networked to every classroom and is searchable on-line from every teacher's desk.

The reading room provides for Grammar & Upper School sections, with reading tables that are used for classes during instructional periods in the library, as well as for study halls and independent reading. Two staff librarians provide instruction in library skills and reading circles for our students.

The library also provides terminals for searching the library resources and for supervised internet access. It also contains a classroom and an editing room for the school's annual, The Gryphon.

The mezzanine (not pictured) allows for textbook storage and expansion to a total collection of about 35,000 volumes. The periodical section is under development as well a virtual library system.
