Under the direction of Walker Pennock the New Covenant Schools bands have not only grown in size, but most notably in quality. Mr. Pennock has demonstrated an amazing ability to instruct and inspire our young musicians.

Band
Beginning in the fourth grade, students are guided in the selection of an instrument as they enter the Grammar School Band and Strings Program. Divided into levels of proficiency, students play at one of several levels through their high school years.

Violin
Since 2007 New Covenant has offered a strings program for students beginning in grade 4. Suzuki method is utilized for beginners with traditional instruction for more advanced musicians. Learning to read music is a prominent goal.

Choir
Students who prefer choral music may join the school choir, which currently has 37 members. The choir is a favorite at the annual Service of Lessons & Carols, held during Advent each year, and signaling the Christmas break.

Competition
New Covenant choral and band students compete in Virginia's 6th District with public and private schools from Southwest Virginia to Alexandria, and regularly earn distinction in voice and a variety of instruments.
