The Art Suite

Students at New Covenant begin art in kindergarten. Currently, instruction is given throughout the school year one day each week through the eighth grade, during which time students are taught art history, and given opportunity to work in a variety of artistic media. At the rhetoric level students complete a course in art appreciation or media for graduation.

The art studio is equipped with five art tables that accommodate up to 20 students and their materials, as well as equipment for spinning clay. A new kiln was added in 2007.

Lynchburg is the home of Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College, which offers extraordinary opportunities throughout the year. In addition, upper school students travel to Washington, D.C. a trip which includes a tour of the National Gallery of Art. Students are conducted on a guided field study of pieces pre-selected by the art instructor. In addition the senior class visits the Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of the annual senior trip to New York City.
