Our Philosophy

Tuition at New Covenant Schools is reviewed and established each year by the Board of Directors, and is designed to achieve the Strategic Plan.

Maintain fiscal responsibility and stewardship - The Board of Directors has fiduciary responsibility for all funds, facilities and real property of New Covenant Schools. Responsible stewardship of these assets is a high priority.

Fund all operating costs from tuition - Income from tuition currently funds 93% of operating costs. New Covenant will be 100% "hard-income" driven by 2009-10.

Maintain economic justice for faculty and staff - The board of directors and the administration seeks to recruit, develop and retain the finest educators available, and has established policies that promote competitive compensation, including benefits and faculty development programs.

Maintain generous tuition assistance for qualified needs - New Covenant Schools seeks to develop a student body that maintains a diverse student body. It is important us that classical, Christian education be broadly available to our community. To that end, we assist those who have real economic needs. New Covenant Schools will grant $226,000 in Tuition Assistance to qualified families in 2008-09.

10-10-10 Plan, 2007-2010

New Covenant Schools maintains budgets that project programming, hiring and facilities needs for at least three years. The board advises families to plan on tuition increases of 10% for each year through 2010.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions About Tuition Assistance

Q. What is TAP (Tuition Assistance Program)?

A. Private education is expensive, and we know few people for whom it is not a sacrifice. To ensure that New Covenant remains economically diverse, we maintain a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Tuition Assistance is a grant from the school which defrays the cost of tuition to those who qualify.

Q. Who should apply for Tuition Assistance?

A. You are encouraged to apply for Tuition Assistance if your total family income is less than $50,000 per year, or if your total tuition is 10% of your total family income.

Q. Will the Tuition Assistance grant be equal to my need?

A. That's difficult to say. New Covenant Schools will award $226,000 in Tuition Assistance in the 08-09 school year. The actual need in the school community may exceed this amount. In that case the amount for which you qualify will be pro-rated downward.

Q. I am applying to New Covenant with a new student; can I be considered for Tuition Assistance?

A. Yes, but you should know that the school favors families who are already enrolled. While we seek to help new families who may need assistance, we will consider your application after current families have been served. You should talk to the Business Office directly if you have questions about your need.

Q. Who processes my application?

A. Tuition Assistance applications are processed by the Family Financial Needs Assessment Group (FFNA). All applications and supporting documents are sent directly to them. The FFNA returns a report to the Headmaster's office and the results are confidential. No one at the school reviews your tax return or has any knowledge of your personal financial affairs.

Q. How do I apply?

A. Obtain an FFNA application from the front office. Fill it out and mail it with a copy of your tax return from last year. There is an application fee charged by FFNA.

Q. When will I know how much of tuition assistance I can count on?

A. The FFNA will send a report to us and we will make a final determination by early spring each year.

Q. Where can I get more information?

A. You can call Cheryl Nester in the Business Office directly at 847.8313.
