Lunch Information & Ordering 2010-11

The NCS Café is the lunch program of New Covenant Schools. It is run by New Covenant Schools’ staff and volunteers.  Please come eat lunch with your children and get to know us better.   Simply sign in at the lobby desk and pick up a visitor’s pass.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Debbie Williamson at 847-8313 or dwilliamson@newcovenantschools.org.  It’s a great way to see your child with his or her classmates,  get to know other parents and grandparents, and be a tremendous help to the school.

Food Allergies

New Covenant Schools follows detailed procedures for students with food allergies and can accommodate all but the most severe cases.  PARENTS ARE ASKED TO NOTIFY THE SCHOOL IF A CHILD HAS FOOD ALLERGIES.  AT THE REQUEST OF THE PARENT, WE WILL SEAT A CHILD AT A TABLE DESIGNATED FOR THOSE WITH FOOD ALLERGIES. ALTHOUGH FOOD SERVED IN THE NEW COVENANT CAFÉ MAY BE SAFE FOR STUDENTS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE IT.

Please speak with the school’s administration about this important issue before school begins.

School Milk

Order once and you’re done. $80 buys a carton a day from August through May.  Please click here to print the milk form.  Milk Form 2010-11 51.26 kB You may use a single form for all your children and bring it to school with your payment on Meet-Your-Teacher day on August 17.

Order your lunch with RenWeb

We are excited to offer online ordering through RenWeb this year.  Orders are due monthly for the following month.  We plan to begin serving hot lunches within a few weeks of school opening.  Details will be available soon.  When it is time to order, we recommend you discuss the menu with your child before placing the order.

Late orders

There is a $5.00 late fee charged to your lunch account for orders made after the cut-off date. Late orders may be submitted in writing or by email to dwilliamson@newcovenantschools.org. The school will try to accommodate late orders, but reserves the right to refuse them.

New Covenant Cafe’ menus

Pre-ordered Lunch

Meal offerings vary each day during the week.  Meals are pre-ordered on a monthly basis with the exception of Vito’s pizza on Fridays, which is purchased ala carte.  Menus are slightly different for K-4 and 5-8.  Arrangements are being finalized and you will be able to see menus online and place your orders shortly.

A la Carte

Students in Grades 5-12 may purchase ala carte items each day.  Vito’s Pizza is available by the slice with no pre-ordering each Friday for all grades.  Funds must be on deposit in your family’s Lunch Works account. Soda is available to students in grades 7-12 only.

Forgot-My-Lunch

As a service to students who find themselves occasionally without lunch, the Café will provide a small meal for $3.00. This amount will be deducted from your lunch account or you will be invoiced if you do not maintain a lunch account balance. Prompt payment is appreciated.

Making payments

How much to send

Make a deposit on your family lunch account at the beginning of the school year to cover your student(s)’ estimated first month’s expenses.  NOTE:  You no longer have to make a distinction between pre-ordered lunch payments and Cafe’ payments for ala carte items.  Add more money on a monthly basis or as needed.  Please plan to make minimum deposits of $20.  You may monitor your lunch account balance from the Parents Portal on RenWeb and send in money when it’s low.  The school will also send you a reminder when you need to deposit more funds.

Cash or Check

You may pay by check or cash. However, to pay with cash, please come in person to the office to receive a receipt. Please note “Lunch” in the memo line of your check.  You no longer have to keep payments separate for pre-orders and NCS Cafe’ ala carte purchases.

Tips for Packing Lunch

  • LABEL ALL LUNCH BOXES AND CONTAINERS.
  • ITEMS AVAILABLE DAILY: Utensils, napkins, basic condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper), hot water (for soups, etc.)
  • ITEMS NOT AVAILABLE: Plates, bowls, cups (if your child doesn’t buy milk or bring a drink, please provide a bottle or cup for water.)
  • MICROWAVE USE
    • ASK FOR HELP – especially in heating up new or unfamiliar items.
    • COOKING TIME – school microwaves are generally more powerful than home models and frozen items will defrost slightly in lunch boxes. Therefore, we recommend reducing cooking time by about 25% over what would normally be required at home.
    • Encourage your student to ask for assistance from an adult.
    • USE MICROWAVE SAFE CONTAINERS – no Styrofoam, etc.

Food Suggestions

Time is limited at lunch. Please consider choosing foods that don’t require assembly or heating, especially for younger students.

Talk with your child before packing or ordering to reduce waste of food.  Find out what your child likes and use that information to help you make healthy food choices. Make a plan to communicate. Talk to your child in the morning on days you have ordered hot lunch for him or her. Also let your child know what purchases he is allowed to make on hot lunch days. Please let the lunch staff know if we may help in this area.
