PARENTING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILD
When students hit the middle school years, things change. The sweet grammar school years can suddenly give way to turbulence. Students naturally want more independence, while lacking the skills and the responsibility to handle new freedoms. Students also begin to sort themselves by a method what we call the “butting order,” ranking themselves in relation to their peers in unhealthy way. Mix in iPhones, texting and social media and you can get into problems quickly. If that weren’t enough many students are entering puberty which has its own set of challenges.
What’s a parent to do? If you’re a New Covenant middle school parent, you take advantage of MS LiveLink, designed to help you navigate parenting the middle school child. The next LiveLink, Parenting the Middle School Child, will be held on Monday, October 30 with dinner beginning at 6 p.m. and discussion with school staff at 7 p.m. Dinner Cost $3 per person or $10 per family.
