New Covenant’s mascot is the gryphon (pronounced “griffin”), a fearsome creature of ancient legend – part lion, part eagle. The gryphon was considered to be a defense against
evil and a guardian of the divine, embodying the supreme powers of both land and sky. In the art and architecture of the early European church, the gryphon was often used to symbolize Jesus Christ.
Our own gryphon presides steadfastly over the school’s courtyard (although he is occasionally decorated in decidedly undignified color schemes, courtesy of the senior class).
